Green Memory: Alba Fabre Sacristán Revives the Maalbeek Valley in Jette
As part of ArtCity, CityDev Brussels’ initiative to enrich public space through artistic collaboration, a new mural now brightens the Jette neighborhood. Created with input from local residents, the work honors the natural landscape of the Maalbeek valley, once a lush, winding river zone, now largely paved over by the expanding city.
Painted by Spanish artist Alba Fabre Sacristán, the mural captures a serene vision of a river and green valley, inviting passersby to reflect on what once was, and what still remains in fragments today. It’s a poetic reimagining of lost nature woven back into the urban fabric.
