A Wall in Bloom: Pastel Honors Waregem’s Weaving Legacy
In June 2024, Argentine street artist Pastel (Francisco Díaz Scotto) brought a quiet burst of color to Waregem’s station wall. painting flax and poppies in full bloom. Trained as an architect, Pastel approaches each wall as a layered landscape, carefully tuned to its surroundings.
The choice of flowers is no accident. Flax, once central to Waregem’s weaving industry, anchors the work in local memory. These aren’t just decorative blooms, they’re a gentle tribute to the city’s past, a reminder that beneath today’s concrete lies a history of craft, cultivation, and community.
